Lookout to Sea More…

Join artists in residence and community participants aboard LV21 for a ‘Lookback’ and celebration of the series of three experimental, collaborative Lookout 21 projects combining local people’s heritage, dreams, passions and personal stories with different artforms.

Find out what happened when community representatives and artists across artforms were paired together and given the opportunity to take time to ‘Lookout’ and develop new artwork aboard LV21 on a variety of themes.

Deep Sea Treasure – Making Day

Join current Lookout21 resident artists Dizzy O’Dare on board LV21 for a day of making bizarre and wonderful treasures found at the bottom of the sea…or in the muddy waters of River Medway. This is a making day for all, anyone who wants to try their hand at creating something unique is welcome, as well as those more experienced makers.

Rats Bay Shindig

We’re hoisting the anchor and heading over to the Rats Bay Shindig, a new family-friendly free festival at Chatham Waterfront. Lookout for artist Wendy Daws and all round entertainer Mr E from Dizzy O’Dare to help them in their quest to spot the hidden gems of Medway with the aid of some unusual looking devices.

Or get creative and join University of Kent Creative Events student Paulina Speltz to build a tender boat of dreams filled with your hopes and wishes for Medway. Tell us how do you see the river? A source of inspiration, fun, work or leisure? Share your stories and memories of the River Medway and lock them safely onboard ‘Lookie’ before she sails back to Light Vessel 21.

After a few busy weeks of Looking Out by artists Wendy Daws and Katryn Saqui & Loren Beven from Underground Pearl together with staff and service users from the Kent Autistic Trust it’s time to celebrate and share the bountiful catch of their imaginative findings!

We’re pleased to invite you to meet the artists and KAT participants on board LV21 to find out what they have been working on during their collaborative residential whilst tucking in on some suitably nautical nibbles and refreshments.

Time to Celebrate

Brighten up the darkest day of the year and seek shelter from the last minute Christmas rush aboard Light Vessel 21.

Join the crew for a shipload of festive cheer, drinks and nibbles to celebrate the 4th anniversary of the arrival of LV21 to Gillingham Pier.

Meet the latest Lookout21 artists in residence, Wendy Daws, Loren Beven and Kati Saqui from Underground Pearl, to find out more about their work and plans for the collaborative project with the Kent Autistic Trust, whilst making your own Christmas decorations with a nautical twist.

Making Waves – Free Workshop

To celebrate what has been an exciting start to the Lookout programme, artist Jim Backhouse from Radio Arts and LV21’s resident radio operator Colin Turner invite local residents aboard Light Vessel 21 to catch some more airwaves. Join Jim and Colin to construct your very own customized AM radio and hear about their ‘behind the scenes’ experiences and highlights of the collaborative residential, which has led to the production of a site-specific audio tapestry of Medway Sounds, including a Human Foghorn.

During the workshop you will learn practical soldering techniques, work with electronic components and use different hand tools – and then get to take the radio home with you to grace your bedside table.

Lookout 21 – Open Day

Join our resident radio operator Colin Turner and artists Jim Backhouse and Magz Hall from Radio Arts  for a day on the ‘airwaves’. Jim will be airing his new site-specific AM/FM installation of Medway Sounds and Human Fog Horns and Magz hopes to record your radio memories to grow her expanding archive of radiophonic memories for the Radio Recall project magzhall.wordpress.com.
